My Financial Support Letter – June 2015

Japan, Missions, Money, Update
Below is a letter I recently sent out to my supporters. I am posting it on the blog for anyone to read.
Hello Everyone,
This is Daniel Lilly. I am writing you to share about how I am doing financially. Please have grace with me as this is still a bit of a struggle for me. I have spent most of my life trying to do things on my own and under my own strength, believing that if I just worked hard enough everything would eventually work out the way I wanted. That may be the American dream, but it isn’t kingdom culture. We do not bless ourselves. In God’s kingdom he blesses us. In Leviticus in the last few chapters, God establishes the Mosaic Covenant with Israel he says that if they do certain things, they will be punished, but if they do things that are of him, he will bless them. Then when Jesus comes and the new covenant is made, do the blessings stop? No, they continue, but the punishment is done away with. We become a nation of priest, like what God had intended for Israel. God blesses or work, but he also blesses us. However, he tells us to ask.
John 14:12-14
Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do and, in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am going to the Father. I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If in my name you ask me for anything, I will do it.
John 16:22-24
So you have pain now; but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. On that day you will ask nothing of me.Very truly, I tell you, if you ask anything of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
Matthew 7:7-11
Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives, and everyone who searches finds, and foe everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. Is there anyone among you who, if your child asks for bread, will give a stone? Or if the child asks for a fish, will give a snake? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him!
After reading these verses so many times, and I kept asking God for help and it would come. I did however forget another Kingdom principle. God likes his people, or rather it is his glory to show himself through his people. I keep thinking, that I need to do everything on my own, but designed us to function together. We are called to be a blessing to the nations, through God’s covenant with Abraham. This is something the believers in Acts understood.
Acts 2:43-47
Awe came upon everyone, because many wonders and signs were being done by the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Day by day, as they spent much time together in the temple, they broke bread at home and ate their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having the goodwill of all the people. And day by day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.
God loves his people and he loves them working together and being together. The God head has always been in perfect unity and there is some much power when God’s people are as well, because we are in agreement with God. God even designed us in such a way, that we need other people to function. This means, I need to ask for help when I need it. All of this was to say, I need help.
After praying and talking with the some of the leadership at the base, I felt the need to share these expenses with you and ask for help. My finances are really taking a toll on me and God has been providing. The fact I am here is such a miracle at this point. Thank you for listening to me. Here is a break down of where I am at as of this month.
I have accumulated debt from living in Japan. All the debt, I owe to the YWAM Tokyo Base.
I owe Staff Fees and Language Fees. Staff Fees pay for rent, utilities, and for a few YWAM Japan expenses. Language fees are used to pay for Japanese classes.
This is the debt I have accumulated with the YWAM Tokyo base.
  • Debts
    • 248,000¥ (200,000¥ for Staff Fees and 48,000¥ for Language Fees)or about $2000 USD
Normally at this point, the base would be looking at sending me home to fundraise. The only reason, I am still here is that the system reset this month and so, I have another two months before it gets to that point. However, at this rate I will owe $3500 USD when that time comes. Here is what I need.
This is my current support.
  • Support Needed
    • 45,000¥ My Current Monthly Support Level (10,000¥ is coming for a missionary here in Japan)
    • 58,000¥ Is Required for Monthly YWAM Fees (not counting mandatory Health Insurance and Cell Phone)
    • -13,000¥ Monthly Income without including non-YWAM expenses and necessities (food, transportation, etc)
    • 120,000¥ Is the Recommended Monthly Support for the YWAM Tokyo Base (I am at 37.5% of this.)
    • 150,000¥ Is What I believe God is wanting me to ask for in order to do the things he is asking of me
  • PossibleOutreaches (This is a listofplacesImay be going.)
    • Hokkaido Trip (July 30 – August 6) Finalized
    • Indonesia Short Term Outreach (In Prayer)
    • Thailand – YWAM East Asia Conference (January 2016) Highly Encouraged to Attend

    • Audio
      • Portable Microphone for capturing voice in video (or microphone to plug in to a Sony Alpha a6000)
      • Headphones – upgrade for audio work in videos
    • Hard Drive
      • 2TB-4TB (storage for B-roll and footage for video projects and to save finished projects) Thank you to a YWAM friend in the USA
  • Missionary Work
    • Suit + Shoes / Formal Outfit** Thanks to my family in Alaska
    • iPhone***
    • Shelf / Book Case for my room
    • Shoes (my shoes are over a year old and starting fall apart.) Thanks to my family in Alaska
*Alaska – I am currently in discussion with Leadership at the YWAM Base in regards to bringing a team to Alaska whenever I am able to go back for fundraising. There are a lot of factors involved with this, and I just recently sent in the request for them to pray about it. Nothing is finalised on this yet.
**Suit – I don’t have a suit, and I have been given the opportunity to meet with Government Officials during the week. I need to get a suit in order to respect the formal nature of these gatherings.
***iPhone – I would love an iPhone. I am working with four non-YWAM ministries a week on top of all the YWAM events, I am attending and helping coordinate. Not to mention video projects and photograph for events. Communication is really becoming a burden, as YWAM uses email, my church uses Facebook, my friends use Line, texting is used in emergencies, and I spend four days a week away from the house all-day. An iPhone, would just help simplify all of this into one device and I could put all these events into a set calendar. That being said, right now I wouldn’t be able to afford the cell plan and I would have to buy it here in Japan with the full cost upfront because of 3-year visa rules.

All verses are taken from the NRSV.
